The Story of Masihi Sahitya Sanstha — Serving through the Written Word.
Beginnings: A Vision for Christian Literature in India
The story of Masihi Sahitya Sanstha (MSS) began with a simple yet powerful conviction: that the gospel should be read, understood, and lived out in every language of India.
In the years following India’s independence, a small group of pastors and Christian educators recognized the urgent need for biblical and theological materials written in accessible Indian languages. Many congregations had limited access to quality Christian literature, and much of what was available was imported and culturally distant from the Indian context.
Moved by this need, a few visionary believers came together under the banner of Masihi Sahitya Sanstha — literally, “Christian Literature Society.” Their goal was to prepare and distribute Christ-centered literature that would nurture believers, support pastors, and help churches grow in sound doctrine and spiritual maturity.
Early Years: Faithful Beginnings
The earliest publications were modest: tracts, devotional booklets, and translated portions of Scripture and hymns. These were printed using simple presses and distributed through local congregations and missionary networks.
Even with limited resources, the ministry’s reach began to grow. Volunteers, pastors, and lay workers carried MSS materials to towns and villages where few printed Christian resources existed. Each book and tract carried the same message: that the good news of Jesus Christ speaks powerfully into every Indian home and heart.
Expansion and Growth
By the 1970s and 1980s, MSS had expanded its publishing efforts to include full-length books, commentaries, and study aids in Hindi, English, and several regional languages.
During this period, MSS began to form partnerships with Bible schools, seminaries, and churches across India — helping train pastors and leaders through faithful, affordable resources.
The organization also took steps to modernize its printing and distribution systems, ensuring that Christian books reached rural and urban readers alike.
A New Century: Embracing Technology and Training
As the new millennium arrived, MSS recognized that the digital world was becoming an essential mission field. The launch of online platforms like Masihi.in and Masihi.Store marked a new chapter in the society’s history.
Through these websites, MSS began to make its resources widely available — offering e-books, study courses, and digital devotionals to readers across India and beyond.
Alongside publishing, MSS also invested in leadership formation, Christian education, and theological development. Many of its courses now support the e-learning initiatives of ministries, enabling pastors and believers to access biblical training wherever they are.
Today: Continuing the Legacy
Today, Masihi Sahitya Sanstha stands as a testimony to God’s faithfulness and the enduring power of Christian literature. What began as a small vision has grown into a movement serving churches, pastors, and believers across India.
MSS continues to uphold its founding vision:
“To proclaim Christ through literature that builds up the Church, nurtures discipleship, and witnesses to the transforming power of the gospel.”
Through every printed page and online resource, MSS remains committed to serving the Church in India — faithfully, prayerfully, and contextually — until every reader can say with conviction, “The Word of Christ dwells richly among us.” (Colossians 3:16)
Faithfully, prayerfully, and contextually
